Police say they have recaptured two inmates who escaped from the Edmonton Institution for Women.

Prison officials say Kelsie Laine Marie Mast, who is 23, and Samantha Faye Toope, who is 20, jumped a fence on the east side of the prison on Monday night.

Police had warned not to approach both women because they were violent and have a history of weapons offences.

They were spotted last night in downtown Edmonton by a member of the public who called police.
