MEDICINE HAT, AB — Chief Andy McGrogan will remain the Chief of Police until the year 2020.

The police commission made the announcement on Thursday night, saying McGrogan has signed a contract extension.

McGrogan was appointed chief in 2008 and is currently the president of the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police.

Chair of the commission Greg Keen said with McGrogan’s leadership, the city will continue to remain in good hands.

“It was unanimous on behalf of the commission to extend his contract by two years and he was very supportive and willing to be able to do that as well,” Keen said. “We just think it’s going to be great for our city moving ahead and for the safety of our city and the residents of Medicine Hat.”
