MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat darts player is getting ready to further his career in England next year.

Dawson Murschell, 23, is moving to the United Kingdom in January to pursue a professional career in darts.

Murschell will be hitting the ground running once he touches down in England. Later that month, he will be competing in the Professional Darts Corporation’s Q-School in Wigan, where he’ll have the chance to earn his pro card.

“If I get my card at Q-School, it sets me up nicely for the next two years to play on the Pro Tour, play full time and make some big money and give it a real go as a professional,” he said.

Murschell, who is spending the holidays in his hometown, was recently involved in a Western Canadian tour with three-time World Champion John Part and World Cup Champion Jeff Smith. The trio played in many different communities, including Calgary, Regina, Saskatoon, Leduc and Medicine Hat.

“It was awesome, it was great reception and we got a great turnout,” he said. “Medicine Hat was fantastic. I can’t thank them enough for all the people who came out to the Lodge, amde it a great environment and let us put on a show.”

Murschell adds he’s happy to see the younger generation take an interest in darts, noting when he started, there were less kids involved. He says the organization, which includes coach Rob Kochie and his grandmother Anne Marie Coroluick, have worked hard to help grow the local club.

“They’re putting a lot of work into it and making sure it’s run right and they’re really building a great youth program in Medicine Hat,” he said.

After Q-School, Murschell is focusing on the UK Open Qualifiers in February.
