MEDICINE HAT, AB. – CanWest Corporate Air Charters has located an airplane hangar space for their contract with Alberta Health Services for Air Ambulance Medevac Services for Medicine Hat.

They want to build a new airplane hangar at the Medicine Hat Regional Airport, if their proposal is approved by city council on Monday, December 18th.

Jeff Huntus, airport manager for the City of Medicine Hat, said they are developing a new hanger area at the airport with four large sized hanger lots.

“It’s the first lot available in that location,” he explained. “It meets the requirements (CanWest needs) for 1.09 acres.”

The lots are all currently undeveloped, said Huntus, and pending approval by city council, construction would need to begin right away.

“In order for them to be operational for April 1st,” he explained. “They need to complete their hanger, prepare a taxi way from the existing taxi way to their lot and provide road access,” he explained.

If the lease is approved, city council would be agreeing to a lease term of ten years. They would benefit from an annual rent revenue of $18,750 along with being able to collect taxes, fees and charges from CanWest Corporate Air Charters.

If the Lease Agreement is not approved by city council, it could impact air ambulance service being available for Medicine Hat.
