MOOSE JAW, SK – Another wild third period comeback from the Medicine Hat Tigers on Sunday, though they had to settle for a single point against the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Coming off a thrilling 4-3 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday, the Tigers visited Moose Jaw for their final test of a four-game road swing.

A little over six minutes into the meeting, Brett Howden dangled his way through the Tigers defence, setting up blueliner Brandon Schuldhaus in the slot for his first goal of the year.

It stayed a 1-0 Warriors lead until early in the second, when Schuldhaus ripped a seeing-eye shot from the point that fooled Jordan Hollett, boosting Moose Jaw’s lead to a pair 1:26 into the frame.

Just over a minute later, Medicine Hat eased off the defence which allowed Dmitri Zaitsev to walk into the slot and fire home his fourth of the campaign to put Moose Jaw ahead 3-0.

The Tigers were finally able to break their goose egg on the score sheet 4:44 into the second, with Kristians Rubins throwing the puck on goal from the boards near the left point.

That shot caught Warriors goaltender Brody Willms off guard, going top shelf to give Medicine Hat some life down 3-1.

Less than seven minutes into the third though, Moose Jaw padded their lead once again as Jayden Halbgewachs one-timed a puck in the slot past Hollett for his league-leading 48th goal of the season.

Looking for a comeback in the final 10 minutes, Jaeger White finished off a pretty passing play from Elijah Brown and Gary Haden to cut the deficit to 4-2.

With 3:42 left in the contest, Bryan Lockner parked himself in front of Willms on the power play and tipped home a Ryan Jevne slap pass for his second as a Tiger to make it a one-goal game.

In the dying seconds with Hollett on the bench for an extra attacker, a shot from the point by Dylan MacPherson was deflected by Mark Rassell to knot the game up at 4-4 with 39 seconds left in regulation.

Heading to overtime for the second straight night, the Tigers were unable to pick up the two points as Howden jammed at a loose puck in the crease with 1:54 left in OT to seal a 5-4 win for Moose Jaw.

Shots were almost dead-even on the night at 41-40 for the Tigers, while Hollett made 35 saves in the loss.

Finishing up their eastern road trip with a 2-1-1 record, Medicine Hat has widened their lead in the Central Division to nine points over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Tigers return to the Canalta Centre for a quick two-game homestand on Wednesday night, looking to continue their recent dominance against the Kootenay ICE.
