MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society is thanking the community for donating cans and bottles at REDI Bottle Depot donation bins around the city.

Each month, REDI chooses an organization to donate funds generated from the donation bins. In December, the money was given to the women’s shelter.

Recyclables collected from the donation bins in December generated $1856.80.

The Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter executive director Natasha Carvalho said REDI donates 100% of the proceeds from the bright orange bins.

She said the donation will go a long way in terms of offsetting costs associated with operating the shelter.

“We have a lot of families and children in shelter, so it’s nice to have some extra money to buy them what they need,” said Carvalho.

Carvalho added that the women’s shelter often sees more people right after Christmas.
