INTERVIEWS: Sticking to systems critical for Tigers

MEDICINE HAT, AB — At no point in a hockey game can you let off the gas.

The Medicine Hat Tigers learned that the hard way Wednesday night, watching the Kootenay ICE erase a two-goal deficit and sneak out a 4-3 victory over the Central Division leaders.

Brett Davis scored the game winner with just four seconds left on the clock. It’s just the second time all season the Tigers tossed away a third period lead.

Although Medicine Hat remains the top-dog in the Central Division, the standings continue to tighten up after a surging two weeks of play out of Lethbridge. The Hurricanes are winners of four of the last five, earning nine of a possible 10 points, to sit a mere six points back of the Black and Orange.

That lead could be cut down to four points following Friday’s action.

Medicine Hat takes a rare Friday night off, while The Windy City is in Prince George to battle the Cougars.

The ICE’s win over Medicine Hat brings them nine points back of the Tigers with plenty of time to make headway before the post-season arrives. Kootenay welcomes last-place Edmonton on Friday, giving them a chance to cinch the Tigers lead to seven.

The message was simple from the Tabbies coaching brass following Wednesday’s defeat: stick to the systems.

That’s their game-plan as they welcome the Prince Albert Raiders to the Canalta Centre on Saturday.

CHAT Sports asked assistant captains Jimmy Hamblin and David Quenneville at what point did the wheels fall off against Kootenay, and how they plan on rebounding against a Raiders team fighting for a playoff spot.

Plus, assistant coach Joe Frazer gives an update to Hayden Ostir’s recovery time, who remains several weeks away from action with a broken finger but has recently began skating with the team.
