Medicine Hat SPCA renovations underway

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat SPCA is well underway with renovations to its facility.

The first phase of renovations got underway on January 8 , with focus on the cat part of their holding area.

“The whole area has been demoed, and they’re just putting new drywall up and getting ready to put down the new floor and paint,” said Katie Ayres, executive director of the Medicine Hat SPCA.

Ayres said the upgrades will hopefully help with disease management, and improve the aesthetics of the building. The building is 33 years old.

The work is scheduled to finish sometime in February, and the SPCA is hoping to get the dog holding area renovations started right away.

“That’s going to take another $150,000,” said Ayres. “We have a couple of outstanding grants that we hope we can get approved for, but we’ll definitely be letting the community know when we plan to do some more fundraiser.”

The organization is also accepting donations to help with renovations, which can be made online at www.medhatspca.ca.
