Overtime blues for Tigers on Saturday, falling 3-2 to Prince Albert

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Overtime has not been kind to the Medicine Hat Tigers as of late, losing for the second time in three games in the extra frame to the Prince Albert Raiders.

Raiders defenceman Vojtech Budik stepped up as Saturday’s hero, scoring exactly one minute into overtime to send the Tigers to their third straight loss 3-2.

After a quiet first period, Tigers captain Mark Rassell opened up the scoring midway through the second with his 39th goal of the season with a nifty goal getting around Raiders netminder Ian Scott.

Prince Albert answered back however, with Curtis Miske sniping on Michael Bullion less than two minutes later to knot the contest at 1-1.

Regan Nagy gave the Raiders their first lead of the game late in the second, netting his 21st of the year on the power play to give Prince Albert the advantage heading into the intermission.

Medicine Hat was determined to tie the game up however, with Josh Williams picking up a Henry Rybinski rebound 2:25 into the third period to make it a 2-2 game.

It was a big goal for the Tigers rookie, scoring his first goal since October 25 after missing a big chunk of the season due to a broken collarbone.

The Tigers outshot Prince Albert 35-26 in regulation but Scott stood tall, meaning this game needed extra time.

Budik didn’t waste any time scoring the game-winner for the Raiders, beating Bullion on the first shot of OT to send Medicine Hat to the showers.

Bullion faced 27 shots on the night and made 24 saves, though his record on the season dipped to 10-7-2 with the loss.

Picking up a point in the loss, the Tigers now hold a 24-18-5 record but have seen their lead in the Central Division dwindle to five points.

A brief northern Alberta road trip kicks off for the ‘Tabbies’ on Tuesday night, visiting Brent Sutter and the Red Deer Rebels at 7:00 pm.
