MEDICINE HAT, AB — Sentencing has been delayed for the man who pleaded guilty to his role in a deadly crash in Crescent Heights last year.

Cody Michell, 25, was scheduled to be sentenced in Medicine Hat provincial court Thursday morning. He pleaded guilty in November to charges of possession of stolen property, attempting to disarm a police officer, two counts of hit and run and dangerous driving causing death.

The sentencing was delayed so pre-sentencing reports can be reviewed.

Michell was arrested on September 11 after two collisions in Crescent Heights involving a stolen truck and trailer.

Police reported at the time of the arrest that Michell stole a truck and trailer from a home on Bassett Crescent Northwest. The first collision saw the truck collide with a minivan on 12 Street NE near Crescent Heights High School. The van was flipped on its side, and the passengers suffered minor injuries.

The truck continued down 12 Street, where it struck a Toyota Camry on Parkview Drive. The driver of the Camry, an 18-year-old woman, was killed. Michell was arrested following the second collision.

Michell’s sentencing is now scheduled for March 1.
